Lachung is a small village resting in North Sikkim near the Tibet border and 118Km from Gangtok. A trip to Lachung is planned en route to Yumtang Valley also called as Zero point. Since it is an Indo-Chinese border a travel permit from the District Commissioner of Gangtok is mandatory.
During the winter the village is covered with snow. In June a famous Buddhist festival "Saga Dawa" is celebrated bringing joy to the village.
The locals call themselves as Lachungpas. They have a self-governing body called "Dzuma" taking care of the internal affairs. Woolen rugs, carpets, blankets are remarkable items from the local markets.
Lachung monastery and Bhim Nala waterfalls or known as Amitabh Bachchan Waterfalls (from the film Aankhe) are along the way.
Vihari team and host Karuna Bhushan took a trip to Northern Sikkim capturing the dynamic beauty of Lachung.
